Art class sessions, each generally eight weeks in length, are held in the
autumn and spring. Membership is required to enroll in art classes.

Classes take place at the Shelton Community Center unless otherwise indicated.

Art Classes

The Bridgeport Art League of Huntington, CT

Sue Zelanakas

Studied art and teaching at Southern Connecticut State College and attended many classes in various mediums taught by professional artists. Over thirty years experience in Decorative Painting including eight years of teaching classes and workshops. Won many awards in Bridgeport Art League exhibits. Also a watercolor artist and have experience in Early American Decorative Art and Jewelry Design.

Diane Podrat

Diane Podrat is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and has painted professionally since 1969.

Her art is in the collections of the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, West Haven Historical Society, Milford Public Library and many private collections. Since retiring from teaching art in the Branford Public Schools for 34 years, she now paints in watercolor, gives private lessons and teaches for the Bridgeport Art League in Shelton. Podrat is an elected member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, Guilford Art League, New Haven Paint & Clay Club and Clinton Art Society.

She has received awards from Clinton Art Society, Stratford, Waterbury and Stony Creek Art Festivals, Milford and Hamden Art Leagues and Connecticut Watercolor Society. The artist studied with Charles Reid, Lou Bonamarte, John Massamino, Judi Betts, Ruth Baderian and Leo Stoutsenburger.

Diane Napolitano

Diane has been painting for 30 years. She is mostly self-taught; however, she has studied with many well-known artists, including Frank Covino, Charles Solvek, Charles Reid, Leah Lopezand George Sutherland.

She has won numerous awards – most recently – Best in Show – and 1st in watercolor – 1st in portrait drawing and 1st in porcelain painting in the 2011 Bridgeport Art League Show. Her work is owned by individual collectors as well as corporations throughout New York, New Jersey and New England. Under contract with Spire Awards in N.Y. from 2004-2007 she was commissioned to paint oil portraits of corporate headquarters for companys such as Canon – aswell as a number of car dealerships – Callari Automotive in Darien, Ct., being one of them.She teaches watercolor at Trumbull High School Adult Education, taught at Naugatuck H.S., Valley Regional Adult Ed., and also at Goldsmith’s in Waterbury. She is teaching oil painting and drawing at Bridgeport Art League – oil painting at Valley Regional Adult Ed. and gives private lessons in her home. Porcelain Painting

There is no formal instruction for our porcelain painting classes. We have a group that fosters our development in this fine art with their experience. We guide and help one another in achieving the art we want to do on porcelain.
